In this article we will start
construction of the basic wing frames.
The
basic wing frame consists of a Leading Edge Spar, Trailing Edge Spar, (3) Compression
Tubes, a Wingtip Tube, and Drag / Anti-Drag Cables.
Here I've joined the Wing Spar Leading Edge and Wing
Spar Trailing Edge with the Compression Struts. Then added the Leading Edge Sweep and
Trailing Edge Sweep Cables.
Once the basic frame is assembled, the Upper
Wing Ribs are placed on the spars. Placing a string across the top of the wing ensures all
the ribs are at the same height across the wing.
With the Upper Wing Ribs riveted in place,
the wing frame is turned over and the Lower Wing Ribs are set in place and riveted. Next
we measure back 11" from the aft side of the Wing Spar Leading Edge and mark the
inside edge of each wing rib.
Rib inserts are then secured to each Upper / Lower Wing Ribs. A 12' long piece of
1/2" tubing is supplied and cut to dimensions given in the manual to fabricate the
(10) Rib Support Tubes needed for each wing. The Rib Support Tubes are then inserted
between the Upper / Lower Wing Ribs.
